30 Days of Poetry Prompts: A Daily Practice for National Poetry Month

I’ve always believed in the power of a good writing prompt. At their best, they are small invitations to bypass doubt and quiet the inner critic. That’s why during our free co-writing sessions, we always offer a handful of optional prompts. Even when I plan to spend most of the time working on an existing project, ten minutes with a prompt can jumpstart my focus and help me get into the flow.

So when thinking about how Lemon Grove could celebrate National Poetry Month, a 30-day prompt practice felt perfect.

We’ve created a free series of 30 poetry prompts—one for each day in April. If you sign up (it’s free), you’ll receive a new prompt in your inbox every morning in April.

Some prompts include all-day activities (like tracking a color throughout your day) or moments of physical movement. Others include suggested readings, call back to earlier prompts, or invite you to sit with memory, ritual, or your relationship to the act of writing itself. I wrote these prompts in the hope that they’ll re-enliven your relationship to writing. To help take off some of the pressure and perfectionism so many of us carry to the page.

Jessica, Caitlin, and I started Lemon Grove to center practice over publishing.
We’re not a space focused on critique or the business of writing (there are already so many other great communities that do that!). We’re more interested in nurturing the creative impulse—in helping ourselves and others return to the page with joy, self-trust, and a little less pressure.

If any of this resonates, I hope you’ll join us for our National Poetry Month practice.

When you sign up, you’ll also get access to our new Lemon Grove Discord group—a quiet, supportive space to share drafts, ask questions, or simply connect with others doing the challenge. Totally optional, but we’d love to have you there!

When you sign up, you’ll receive:

  • One original poetry prompt each morning in April
  • Access to our free Lemon Grove Discord community
  • The option to join impromptu co-writing sprints and check-ins

The first prompt goes out April 1st at 6am Central.
